Tattoo Removal treatment at Excellence clinic

In Spite of knowing about the tattooing, some people get the tattoos without giving it full consideration and thought. Later in life their lifestyle circumstances or appreciation of their tattoo changes and they want the ink removed.

Tattoo removal procedure

At Excellence Clinic, we offer services for tattoo removal on all skin types. The Q-Switch Laser uses Photo Acoustic energy to penetrate the skin and safely target the tattoo at its core.

It works by penetrating down to the dermis and breaking down the ink into micro particles. These particles eventually get eliminated through natural body process. At Excellence Clinic we trace the tattoo design without causing unnecessary exposure to the surrounding skin because the laser targets the energy in a precise ‘beam’. The Q-switched Nd:YAG lasers is used at our clinic to remove unwanted tattoos.

In over 95% of cases complete removal or significant fading of the tattoo colour can be achieved without scarring.

Does laser tattoo removal hurt?

Our clients tell us that the experience feels much like the tattooing a brief moment of mild dull pain like a pinch followed by a feeling of warmth in the treated areas. We do offer anesthetic gel and depending on your tolerance, you may or may not need to use this. At Excellence Clinic, we also cool your skin using ice packs before and during the treatment to help numb the area being treated.

Tattoo removal sessions

Removing a tattoo takes longer than getting the tattoo. At Excellence Clinic, our experience is that it takes from 4 to sometimes 12 sessions 10 weeks apart. It also depends upon the number of colors used in your tattoo, the size of the design the type of ink used and the age of tattoo.

Larger tattoos may take more sessions to achieve removal whereas smaller tattoos and especially black tattoos are easier to remove than larger multi-coloured designs. This is because of the fact that different ink colours and ink types used in your tattoo require different treatments with the appropriate laser for your skin and the tattoo ink. After several treatments, you will notice a temporary whitening of the area that has been treated. As time passes, the tattoo will fade away and the skin will return to your normal colour.

A simple home-made black tattoo may only require 4-6 treatments to remove, whereas a multicolored professional tattoo may need 6-12 or more treatments. As with all Laser therapy treatments, the frequency of sessions and number of treatments required will depend on your skin type, the area affected and the size of that area.

Are There Any Precautions To Take During Treatment?

Just like with all laser treatments, avoid exposing to direct sunlight before treatment, while taking treatment and for some weeks following treatment. At Excellence Clinic, we will customise our advice based on your skin type and the nature of the treatments that you are receiving

Laser tattoo removal side effects

A small number of people treated may experience side effects (unwanted outcomes); which are usually temporary and mild, though can be more severe and longer term. They include;

  • Scarring though rare, it can occur with all skin types and especially if the required precautions (relating to sun exposure and some medicines) are not followed, before, during and after treatment.
  • You may end up with hypopigmentation, which means the skin that is treated is paler than the skin surrounding it.
  • You could also have hyperpigmentation, which leaves the affected skin darker than the rest of your skin. This pigmentation usually returns but can take up to 12 months and in very rare cases can take so long that is considered.
  • Certain tattoos like cosmetic tattoos on lips, eyeliners or eyebrows may actually get darker after treatment. They do tend to fade with additional sessions.
